WELCOME FROM OUR FAMILY TO YOURS!

We are the descendants of the late James B. Mitchell Sr. and we are honored to continue his legacy through our passion for assisting families in need. Our mission is to provide a safe and positive after-school program for children who cannot afford it. We understand there are many worthy causes to support, and we are grateful for your consideration in supporting our foundation. Thank you for helping us keep the legacy of our family patriarch alive.

“And they’ll know we are christians by our love, by our love. yes they’ll know we are christians by our love”…  the result of love is victory for mankind!

The Man

James B. Mitchell

James B. Mitchell Sr. AKA “Mitch” was the father of two sons and three daughters.  A family man, a man of tradition, a man of compassion, and a man of his word.  He was born in 1928 in Paducah Ky. Never was there a time when he felt it necessary to judge a person or put them  down. Instead his conversation with you would begin with a comedic one liner, humorous enough to crack a smile on the most troubled individuals.

A hard worker, James worked two jobs his entire working life but never seemed tired and maintained a smile and a willingness to help anyone in need. A man of faith  but never judged those who struggled with believing and he always had some token gift of love for his grandchildren.

An avid golfer, and a certified caterer, he found his passion early in life and mastered his craft. He traveled the nation catering events for governors, mayors and Kentucky notables.

James B. Mitchell Sr. was the type of man that did not allow ignorance of others to hinder or validate who he was as a person. Instead he always held his head high and found the positives in living life. He would always find a way to make a bad situation more bearable often beginning his conversations with a humorous phrase.

Our Founder

James B. Mitchell Foundation

The James B. Mitchell Foundation has been in existence since 2015 under the inspiration of Founder and CEO Cherryl Mitchell. Cherryl made the decision that “Granddaddy” was too great of a man to not memorialize his character and thus began the start of what we know today as The James B. Mitchell Foundation. Cherryl is the wife of Shawn Mitchell, James B. Mitchell’s grandson. Cherryl and Shawn have been actively serving the ChicagoLand children and youth for more than two decades.

What good is it to be successful and do nothing to combat the destruction in our communities? Ignoring it will not make it go away.

As profound as our grandfather was to us, we felt it would not be right to only allow his light of character to only shine on our family. Although eternally grateful that he lived to see his great grandchildren. Other families should also experience true humanitarianism through the work of the James B. Mitchell Foundation.
